SELMA TO MONTGOMERY MARCH – 54 MILES

SIGNFICANCE:
Led by Dr Martin Luther King Jr, 600 people marched 54 miles over 5 days from Selma, Alabama, to the state Capitol in Montgomery to demand an end to discrimination in voter registration.

POINTS OF INTEREST:
At the Edmund Pettus Bridge, state and local lawmen attacked the marchers with billy clubs and tear gas, driving them back to Selma.

TIPS FOR COMPLETING THIS DISTANCE:
This challenge can be completed by foot. Run, walk, jog – march!
