Welcome to our 2023 IL Brewery Running Series Kick Off Event!
We started in 2016 at Goose Island! We now host 20 events per year in Illinois!
Our events are simple. We map out a course that starts and ends at the day’s host brewery / taproom / tasting room. Participants check in the morning of the event, complete the course at their own pace and enjoy the day’s festivities.
Registration always includes a FREE craft beverage, your choice of a Collector’s glass or Series swag item, access to the day’s entertainment like – live music, food trucks, games and giveaways from our partners and sponsors + we donate a portion of all proceeds back to local nonprofits.
It’s not about how far or how fast you go, it’s just that you GO! Every age, every level, everyone is invited to join in the fun.
The last few years have taught us a lot, including that nothing can stop us from being active, having fun and giving back to our local community.
About Today
Our annual Kick Off Party is THE BEST time to register for our events. We offer discounts and VIP Packages that you cannot get at any other time throughout the season.
While today’s event has a virtual option, our entire season will be LIVE and in person, and we can’t wait to run and drink beer with you!

As things in the world remain uncertain and chaotic, we provide community and exercise to all who join. We hope in our little way we can help everyone manage these difficulties as best they can.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What does each event entail?
Participants arrive, check in, walk / jog / run a course that we’ve mapped out in advance, get a craft beverage, and enjoy the day’s festivities.
Do you offer refunds? What if I can't make an event?
- Purchase of these Kick Off event packages are non-refundable since they are heavily discounted and for one day, BUT we offer free transfers space permitting and as long as we are notified at least 48 hours in advance of the event you cannot attend. If you are unable to make an event, we are more than happy to help get you registered for any other event in our 2023 season. Due to limited capacities, we cannot offer transfers after events have passed and we cannot transfer remaining event credits over to 2024 events.
What is included?
- 1 craft beer / cider / craft beverage
- Your choice of a Collector’s Pint Glass or Series Swag Item
- Donation to local non-profit organization
- Access to all event festivities like: live music, food trucks, door prize giveaways, games and goodies from our partners and sponsors, and more
What’s a “Series Swag” item?
- These items will rotate throughout the season
- We like to mix it up so you can run with us often and you don’t keep getting the same darn thing!
- All will be comparable in value. Examples: pint glass, FitSok running socks, BPA free waterbottle, bottle openers, running belts.. the list goes on!
- Got enough “stuff”? Ask us about our SWAG POINTS card!
Are T-shirts included?
- T-shirts are not included but shirts and other merch are available for sale on site at events
How do I know where to go? What if I forget what I signed up for?
- You will receive a confirmation email, as well as a detailed information email the week of the event with directions and any specific information you need to know about the day’s festivities.
How do I know where to run? What if I get lost?
- You will get a course map when you check in before the run; we mark each major intersection with course arrows*
- We will also have courses available in Strava so you can follow along on your mobile device
- *Select courses will also have volunteers stationed along the route to help you know where to go. This will vary per course.
- IMPORTANT REMINDER: our courses are all OPEN, which means you are responsible for your safety.
ARE KIDS ALLOWED? WHAT ABOUT DOGS?
- Our events are family-friendly and we aim to make it as positive an experience for all! Kids under 10 run for free and do not need to be separately registered. Strollers are always allowed on the course.
- Kids over 10 do need to be registered for the runs and will receive a free non-alcoholic beverage with their token.
- Furry friends are always allowed on the course, HOWEVER always check and make sure the brewery allows dogs for the post-run experience!
Are they all 5Ks?
- Mostly, yes! All events offer a 5k option with the exception of:
- We end our season with a 0.5k Winter Beer Dash This event is a bit more about the beer than the running…
- All courses start and end at the host location; and it’s important to note, we say “5k-ish” – we try to showcase the neighborhood, which means sometimes the course is a little bit longer, or a bit shorter. We do not certify the course.
Is it pretty competitive? What if I’m not a runner?
- All levels are welcome! Walk, jog, run, crawl… whatever goes! It’s not about how far or how fast you go… it’s just that you GO!
- We do give a Golden Growler to the first male and female to cross the finish line, which earns them a FREE growler from the participating brewery, but we always encourage them to share 😉
What are “post-course festivities”?
- It all depends on the event (see Series Line Up for more details on each location) but things like: live music, food trucks, games, goodies, door prize giveaways, and more!
What’s the Brew Crew?
Glad you asked! This is our way to celebrate all you VIPS out there.
- BREW CREW membership gets you:
• A 2nd free beer at every event
• Exclusive Brew Crew VIP T and wristband - 3 Free Registrations to Share with Friends (one per season: May/June, July/August, Sept/Oct-cannot be combined and can only be shared with first time IL BRS participants who did NOT sign up for runs themselves at the kick off or on their own )
Who are the non-profit partners?
- Chicago Parks Foundation-is the 501c3 partner of the Chicago parks. Their mission is to build a stronger community dedicated to supporting and conserving our city’s parks.
- Chicago Run-is a non-profit organization that provides young people Pre-K through high school with inclusive running and physical activity programs. They empower young people with equitable access to physical activity and use running as a catalyst to transform lives. Through the power of sport, they build resilience to stress and trauma and develop social and emotional skills. They primarily focus programming in under-resourced communities with limited access to physical activity and play.
- Recovery on Water-is a rowing team that gives breast cancer patients and survivors the unique opportunity to interact, become active in their recovery, and gain support from their peers.

How much money actually gets donated?
- 10% of all proceeds from our full season of events events
- Our mission is to be active, have fun, and give back! We’ve donated over $350k back to local organizations across all our locations to date, and this year we look forward giving even more .. And to more local organizations doing great work!!

5K Fun Runs!The Brewery Running Series is about inspiring people to Be Active, Have Fun, and Give Back. We host untimed family-friendly 5K fun runs that start and end at some of your favorite breweries!
Participants walk or run 3.1 miles, then drink beer! Everyone is invited to enjoy the day’s entertainment: live music, great food, giveaways and activities with partners and sponsors.
