About

Join us for a virtual weekend of fun, February 5 – 7, 2021

As the goal event for the Providence Heart to Start program, this event is a chance to be a part of a broader community encouraging all of us to Be Active, Have Fun and Give Back.

With the help of the Providence Heart Institute and their Heart to Start program, we are committed to being a community of runners, walkers, and joggers, that care deeply about pursuing health and giving back to our community.

Participants walk, jog, or run a 5k or 10k anytime between February 5 -7, on their own. Complete it on your favorite route, or tap into our vast network of 5K courses! Complete it with your dog, pushing a child in a stroller, or even do it from 6 feet away with a few friends and encourage one another along the way.

An Event for Everyone

Walk, run, jog, we don’t care! No matter your age, ability, or pace, this is an event for everyone.

Fantastic Gear

Participants receive an at-home printable bib, custom-designed wood finishers medal (that doubles as a bottle opener), and a canvas tote bag!

Virtual Fun

We will have fun activities, tips and tutorials on how to bring a piece of our 5K event experience to your own home!

Find a 5K or 10K course

Picking a route for a 5k or 10k can also be hard, so we want to help. We have a plethora of courses throughout Oregon, SW Washington, and beyond. Stay tuned for routes to be released in early January via our free coursefinder app!

Submit Your Results

Submit your results February 5 – 7, 2021 using STRAVA and our custom built app. Don’t forget to snap a “finish line” pic and upload to share on our community leaderboard.

Cheer. Record. Listen

Have your friends and family pre-record an encouraging message and then play it back over the length of your race-day course. Find out how via Motigo.

Upgrade your registration with a cozy fit tshirt or hoodie!

Run anytime, anywhere between 12:01 a.m. on Friday, February 5th, and 11:59 p.m on Sunday, February 7th.

Where do I submit my results?

Starting February 1, there will be a big orange button that says, “Connect with Strava.” You will simply connec that button to connect your STRAVA account. Stay tuned for specific information as the date gets closer.

There could be a few reasons.

  2. The app works best using the Chrome, Safari, or Firefox web browers. If using Internet Explorer, please try one of those other browers.
  3. You might have some sort of very tight security on your computer. If so, contact us and we’ll try to trouble shoot.

What guidelines are there for safe social distance running?

TOP COVID-19 RELATED SAFETY TIPS

  1. Don’t run if you feel sick
  2. Follow all public health guidelines, including social distancing guidelines of staying 6ft from people not in your household
  3. Don’t gather in large groups and avoid congregating in common areas
  4. We discourage runners from unnecessary travel, especially those who are considered an at-risk group
  5. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  6. Do not touch your eyes, nose and mouth
  7. Wear a mask in public settings before and after your run
  8. Prepare for limited access to public restrooms and water fountains
  9. Share the trail and warn other trail users of your presence as you pass
  10. Alter your route or time of day you run if you find it too crowded to ensure appropriate social distancing

TOP GENERAL SAFETY TIPS

  1. Follow all traffic and pedestrian laws at all times—roads aren’t closed, so you must be responsible for your own safety and maintain situational awareness
  2. If wearing headphones, keep volume down and only wear one ear bud.  Always stay alert and aware of what’s going on around you
  3. Drink when you feel thirsty, bring plenty of fluids
  4. Run before it gets too hot or on a less humid day
  5. If you’re feeling hot, lightheaded, or dizzy during the run slow your pace to prevent overheating
  6. Look and listen both ways before crossing
  7. Write down or tell someone of your running route and when you plan to run
  8. Wear reflective material if you must run before dawn or after dark
  9. Carry identification or write your name, phone number, and blood type on the inside sole of your running shoe.  Include any medical information.
  10. Run against traffic so you can see approaching automobiles
Do I need a GPS or other smart watch?

Not necessarily, but you will need a way to track your run. If you have a smart phone, then you can download the free STRAVA app and track your event miles that way.

Drew Klinsing and Nathan Freeburg

Participants walk or run 3.1 miles, then drink beer! Everyone is invited to enjoy the day’s entertainment: live music, great food, giveaways, and activities with partners and sponsors. Runners and walkers receive a craft brew and a collectors pint glass or seasonal swag item (plus rotating goodies) with registration. 10% of our proceeds help support local nonprofit partners.

The Oregon Brewery Running Series is locally owned and operated by Portland and Vancouver residents – Nathan Freeburg and Drew Klinsing. They are the masterminds behind the Oregon/Washington schedule and at the helm of ensuring everyone has a great run/walk, delicious beer, and a fun experience!

Nathan started running when he was 13 years ago and 25+ years later, he’s still going. When he’s not running, he enjoys taking his four kids on adventures in the great outdoors. And when he and his wife can, they love to travel, explore new restaurants, and attend outdoor concerts. He loves hazy IPA’s, good pizza, and strong coffee.

Drew is a self-declared novice at so many things: soccer, basketball, baseball, stand up paddle boarding, camping, etc. One thing he is not a novice at is the Pacific Northwest. He and his wife Michelle, along with their two kids, love living in the Portland area and exploring all there is to offer especially the breweries that saturate this great land.

2021 will be the sixth year Drew and Nathan have been enjoying beer run fun in Oregon and SW Washington.
