Be Active

What is the Oregon Brewery Running Series?

The Oregon Brewery Running Series is about inspiring Oregonians to Be Active, Have Fun, and Give Back. We host untimed family-friendly 5K fun runs that start and end at some of Oregon’s best breweries.

Participants walk or run 3.1 miles, then drink beer! Everyone is invited to enjoy the day’s entertainment: live music, great food, giveaways and activities with partners and sponsors. Everyone receives a craft brew, and a collectors pint glass or seasonal swag item. 10% of our proceeds help support our nonprofit partners, the Oregon Brewshed Alliance, The Oregon Food Bank, and Dollar For Portland.

Be Active

The number of miles we’ve collectively traveled since 2016, 3.1-ish at a time.

Have Fun!

Beer and running are the mechanisms for bringing people together!

We welcome runners, walkers, joggers of all levels. Anyone who wants to get out and enjoy the community is invited to join in the fun! We value the experience of gathering like-minded folks together, and we think every finish line is worthy of a celebration. We support our fellow local businesses and encourage others to do the same. Our commitment to our local community and curiosity in what’s possible is what inspires us to grow!

Give Back

Giving back to our community and supporting great causes is part of who we are. 10% of our proceeds help support these non-profit organizations.

Since our first season in 2016, we have given over $20k to local Oregon nonprofits.

The Oregon Brewshed® Alliance is a coalition of Oregon brewers, brewing community partners, and conservationists who understand the value of clean water and protected forest watersheds. Beer is over 90% water after all, and that water is a product of the land that it flows through. Alliance members work together to educate the craft beer drinking community about protected watersheds and their essential role in Oregon’s celebrated craft brewing industry.

Dollar For helps local families pay overwhelming with the power of a community that gives just $1 a month. 100% of every dollar goes directly to families in need. Sign up today.

The Oregon Food Bank collects food from farmers, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, individuals and government sources. They distribute that food through a Statewide Network of 21 Regional Food Banks and approximately 1,400 food assistance sites serving all of Oregon and Clark County, Washington.

We have also worked with other local non-profits on an event by event basis. NeighborImpact, Made to Thrive, and Hunger-Free Oregon are all doing great work around the state.

We recently had a chance to support one of our nonprofit partners, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic Fibrosis is a hereditary condition that affects the lungs and digestive system.

In June of 2021, our dear friends and long-time volunteers, Sal and Jackie Fuoti, joyfully became grandparents to Mila, who was born with Cystic Fibrosis. Despite her condition, Mila is a vibrant and cheerful baby. Sal and Jackie have since dedicated themselves to raising funds to pursue a cure. We warmly invite you to be part of our fundraising endeavors.

If you missed this event and would like to show your support, you can donate via the link in our bio or purchase one of our special tie-dye shirts at our next event.

A BIG thank you to the 250+ runners and walkers who joined us in Carlton for our 5K event at Abbey Road Farm! Not only was this our largest run of 2023 (so far), but it was also our only 5K at a winery! 🍷

Join us in a few weeks when we head to Hood River at Ferment on September 16!

About Us

The Brewery Running Series started in Minneapolis in 2012 by Nate Herrington and Morgan Jappe. They wanted to combine their favorite things – being active, drinking beer, and supporting their community. Turns out, a few thousand other locals share those same interests! A few years and tens of thousands of beers and miles later, they decided to branch out.

The Oregon Brewery Running Series is locally owned and operated by Portland and Vancouver residents – Nathan Freeburg and Drew Klinsing. They are the masterminds behind the Oregon/Washington schedule and at the helm of ensuring everyone has a great run/walk, delicious beer, and a fun experience!

2022 will be the 7th year Drew and Nathan have been enjoying beer run fun in Oregon and SW Washington.

Our Team

Nathan Freeburg

Co-Founder

Nathan started running when he was 14. 25+ years later, he’s still going. When he’s not running, he enjoys exploring the city with his son, reading books with his daughters, finding new restaurants with his wife, traveling, or backpacking. He loves hazy IPA’s, good pizza, and strong coffee.

Drew Klinsing

Co-Founder

A novice at so many things, soccer, basketball, baseball, stand up paddle boarding, camping…you get the picture. One thing I am not a novice at is the Pacific Northwest, we love living in the Portland area and exploring all there is to offer especially the breweries that saturate our great area.

Michelle Klinsing

Michelle is a PNW native where she found a love for the outdoors, such as camping snowboarding and paddle boarding with her family. She also enjoys being active with yoga, running, and checking out the Northwest’s restaurants and breweries. She loves to travel any chance she gets, whether to a new beach or a new country!
