Today on the podcast we’re chatting with with Helen Lewis, Cider Propagandist at from Portland Cider Co.

We’ve had the immense privilege of working with Helen for the past few years. This fall marks our fourth run with those amazing Cider Makers. You may remember learning a little bit of their story from my interview with co-founder, co-owner and head cider make Jeff Parish from 2018. Listen to that interview here!

I met with Helen, and Katie who helps with events and other marketing stuff, on a sunny day in August to go over details for the run. There wasn’t a ton to talk about regarding the fun run since the past few years it’s gone off so well. They have a big huge, amazing space to host us, and everyone who works there are professional service industry people who never seem to meet a problem they can’t solve instantly and with a smile.

So on this day, I mostly wanted to chat with Helen about what they’ve been up to in the past year or so since we’ve been with them.

Today’ on the podcast, you’ll get to learn a few new things about Portland Cider Co. Helen and I talk a bit about their new switch to canning and some branding that recently hapened. It’s pretty amazing and a bigger deal than you might realize.

We also talk about their community fruit gathering initiative, which is a fundraiser for Hunger-Free Oregon. A nonprofit that works “alongside those most impacted to advocate for systemic changes and better access to food, believing everyone has the right to be free from hunger.

We’re excited to announce they will be our nonprofit partner for this event! 10% from your event registration will go directly to Hunger-Free Oregon to support they work they do.

Our event day, October 19, 2019, is going to be the release of a special cider with 100% of proceeds going to benefit Hunger-Free Oregon. The cider is special because it’s made almost entirely with fruit that has been gathered from backyards all over the Portland metro area. Pretty cool, right? I have a bunch sitting in a box that I need to drop off soon.

Helen and I also chat a bit about new cider releases and a special running challenge we have for this run only, so keep listening then register to join us at Portland Cider Company on October 19! Jeff, the co-owner and head Cider Maker will again be challening you! If you can beat him, he’ll treat you to a second free cider. See you then!

About Portland Cider Co.

We started the Portland Cider Company in 2012 with the intent of marrying English cider traditions with the innovative Northwest micro-brewing culture. Now 7+ years on, we continue to devote the same passion for 5,000 gallon batches as we did for those first 5 gallon ones. Only now we don’t worry about running out of what we love! We hope you won’t run out of it either!

All are Welcome!

We don’t care if you’re a runner, walker, or something else. We just care that you’re active! Nearly 20% of our participants at Ordnance chose to walk this one, and we love it!
