In 2018, I chatted with Bolt to learn all about his brewing background, getting into the beer business, awards he has won, inspirations, etc. Rather than rehash that, you can listen to that episode here. The promo codes from that episode will still work by the way.
Last week, I had the incredible privilege to talk with Bolt again. He’s such a fun, interesting, engaging guy. Always very present when I’m talking with him. He’s one of those people who dosen’t seem distracted by the million other things he probably could be doing. My only regret is that we didn’t have more time.
In my conversation with Bolt, we talk about,
- where the name 54°-40′ comes from (always a great little piece of Americana),
- a fundraising beer they made to help with the Steigerwald Wildlife refuge,
- other community events and partnerships they’re excited about.
- and more!
Bolt also shares a funny story of their very first customer – It involves raccoons – and we chat a lot about why community is so important to them. 54°-40′ is a destination brewery on purpose, which exists to be a place that serves the community on a first name, customer by customer basis.

Just like our awesome customers who we think of as family, we also feel the folks that make the brewery run are family. Meet the folks who keep the brewery running and bringing you all the tasty beverages you love.
All are Welcome!
We don’t care if you’re a runner, walker, or something else. We just care that you’re active! Nearly 20% of our participants at Ordnance chose to walk this one, and we love it!
