The 2018 Oregon Brewery Running Series season may have just ended, but we’re ready to roll with 2019! The 2018 season was amazing; we learned a lot, met tons of interesting new people, and established relationships with participants of all kinds. Since it’s Thanksgiving week here in Oregon, we thought we would spend just a little time reflecting on all the fun we had this year.
In 2018, we hosted 20, 5k fun runs, at 17 different breweries and one cidery. We had 2,509 participants (about 500 more than the year before), and helped nearly 1,000 new runners be active! A whole bunch of you ran more than one run (most utilizing the season passes I’ll describe below). Our largest run was at Base Camp on November 3 (222!), and smallest was at Ordnance in August (just 48)
We also tracked the number of beers you all drank (or at least the ones we purchased). Between participants, volunteers, partners, and our musical guests, we drank 2,795 pints of delicious craf beer! You also ran 7,778 miles (12,545K) and raised $5,250 for the Oregon Brewshed Alliance, Dollar For Portland, and Life Vest Inside. That’s almost double the amount we were able to give in 2017!
Thank you for making this season so memorable. The participants, you, are indeed an inspiration. Hearing some of your stories helped Drew and I realized the diverse backgrounds we all come from. From those working in the medical profession to creative types, cancer survivors, teachers, lawyers, stay at home moms and dads, insurance providers, entrepreneurs, military personnel and so many more. We all share a deep love for running and beer.
Looking Ahead to 2019
Drew and I have been hard at work for the past several weeks getting our 2019 brewery running series schedule lined up. To date, we have 13 breweries confirmed, with another 11 or 12 that we’re working on final details with. We’re excited to announce our first run in Bend, as well as a handful of breweries that will be new to our series. We’re also back at some of our favorites, and running at new locations of established Portland favorites.
But to get the year started right, we’re hosting a kickoff party on Saturday, January 19, 2019! We’re partnering with the Oregon Historical Society (OHS) to host a killer launch party. There, you’ll get to enjoy beer samples from participating breweries, grab food, play beer related games, listen to live music from Bullets and Belles, enter to win a raffle prize, and take a tour of the new Barley, Barrels, Bottles, & Brews: 200 Years of Oregon Beer exhibit at OHS!
The party gets underway at 6:00 PM, but feel free to come to the open house anytime before 8:00 PM. Beer service ends promptly at 8:00 pm! Tickets are $5 for the first 50 who sign up (or until December 1), then go up to $7. Still, it’s a STEAL of a deal!

About the Oregon Historical Society
The Oregon Historical Society is dedicated to making Oregon’s long, rich history visible and accessible to all. For more than a century, they have served as the state’s collective memory, gathering and preserving a vast collection of artifacts, photographs, films, manuscripts, books, and oral histories. We exist because history is powerful and because a history as deep and rich as Oregon’s cannot be contained within a single story or point of view.
