Welcome to another installment of the Oregon Brewery Running Series Podcast; Inspiring Oregonians to Get Active, Have Fun, and Give Back. We host family-friendly, 5K fun runs that start and end at some of Oregon’s best breweries.
On today’s show, I talk with Lisa Morrison, “beer goddess” and co-owner of Belmont Station. She and I talk about the six things all people need to know about beer. We will define what beer is, describe what gives it its color, talk about the right way to taste it, explain the fundamental difference between the two core styles of beer (ales and lagers), share some food pairing ideas, and more. Lisa will also share her number one hope for beer drinkers around the world!

Who is Lisa Morrison?
Lisa Morrison has been into craft beer since before it was a thing. She and her husband (who dated over beer) moved to Portland from Colorado in 1989, where they found themselves in beer heaven!
Lisa is a writer by trade, and in the mid-90’s, started doing restaurant reviews for City Search, which then turned into a beer column in the paper and online. Through writing the beer column, a radio show (“Beer O’Clock!”) and a book on craft beer (Craft Beers of the Pacific Northwest: A Beer Lover’s Guide to Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia), she has established herself as the go-to expert on all things beer.
In 2013, Lisa became the majority owner in one of Portland’s premiere bottle shops, Belmont Station, located at 45th and Stark Street in southeast Portland. She also teaches beer education classes, which is why she is perfect for this conversation!
About Belmont Station
Belmont Station, founded in 1997, is half beer bar and half bottle shop, with a food truck and patio in the back. In early 2018, they underwent a major remodel and added ten taps to bring their total up to 34. The Bottle Shop features 1,400+ carefully curated bottles and cans, but that numbers changes twice a week.
The beer has been “thoughtfully selected, meticulously rotated, and properly stored under UV-filtered light to maintain the freshest selection of beer in the region.” How do they pick them? In part, they let their customers choose! Listen to the interview to hear more about this process.
