Welcome back to another installment of the Oregon Brewery Running Series Podcast; Inspiring Oregonians to Get Active, Have Fun, and Give Back. We host family-friendly, 5K fun runs that start and end at some of Oregon’s best breweries.

In today’s show, I’m talking with the co-founder and head cider maker at Portland Cider Co., Jeff Parrish. He and I met up at the Portland Cider House on Hawthorne Blvd in south-east Portland. That location is best described as a pub and has a rustic farmhouse vibe to it, with lots of unfinished wood, and interesting art on the walls. It’s meant to reflect the vibe of that area of Hawthorne. Jeff says,

…at Hawthorne, that is really the reflection of Portland cider as a whole because we are a mix of kind of a funky Portland vibe in this traditional English cider culture. This place represents that really well.

Jeff is a fascinating, fun, and friendly guy who I got to know a little bit from our 2017 run at Portland Cider Co. That was our most popular run of the entire 2017 season, which is funny because, well, it’s not a brewery. Regardless, we’re super excited to be running there again in 2018 on February 10. Jeff and his fantastic team are also excited to have us back as it was a lot of fun for them on many levels, including Jeff’s first organized run in decades!

In today’s interview, Jeff and I discuss;

  • How he got into the world of craft cider
  • What he would do differently if he were starting Portland cider today
  • What he is really proud of in the five years since beginning the business,
  • A few tips for understanding the culture and language of craft cider.

He also shares a few new ciders in the works, and there’s a promo code in there somewhere too, so listen carefully!
