The Oregon Brewery Running Series is excited to launch our summer series on July 22 at Migration Brewing! With four events this summer, we look forward to exploring new breweries in the hot Portland sun.

Summer is such a beautiful time in Portland. From the fourth of July, through late September, I consider the weather here to be nearly perfect. It can get hot, but without the suffocating humidity of the Midwest (where I’m from), it’s extremely pleasant.

Drew and I have been hard at work lining up new partners, new courses, new swag and new breweries for you to enjoy. Here is a small preview of what you can enjoy at one of our 5k fun runs this summer.

The Breweries

This summer, we’ll be at two new breweries and two that we ran at last year.

Migration

Migration Brewing Co, (July 22) located at 28th and Glisan, has been around since 2010 and one of my local neighborhood breweries. I recently sat down with Colin Rath, co-owner/founder, to talk about their beer, and what it’s like being an intentional community gathering space. Colin says what they have created is a “third space.”

“…a place for the community to come together, that hosts the community and a place that engages with the community and helps facilitate other people’s dreams and aspirations.”

Migration Brewing Patio

During the run, we’ll be exploring the Laurelhurst/Kerns neighborhood in NE Portland. This area consists of many big beautiful homes and tree lined streets.

Lucky Lab

Lucky Labrador Brewing Co. (July 29) has been in the beer business since the early nineties. Gary Geist is the laid back co-owner and founder of The Lab. During our interview Gary shared a bit about his upcoming Western States 100 endurance race. That’s 100 miles!

Our 5K run will start and end at their Hawthorne location, located in the heart of the quickly redeveloping Central Eastside Industrial Area.

Hopworks

Hopworks Urban Brewery, Powell, (August 5) is a favorite family brewery of ours. Not only do they have excellent beer and food, but play areas for the kids. It helps many of us feel a little less crazy when we want to get out for the evening.

Laurelwood

Last but not least, Laurelwood Brewing Co (August 12) rounds out our summer series. I sat down with Ben Dobler, Director of Brewing Operations and Brewmaster at Laurelwood Brewing recently, and we sampled a new seasonal beer that will be incredibly refreshing after your run. Make sure to try the Boysenberry Berliner Weiss! Our run will likely take us east, and deliver views looking over the Rose City Golf Course.

The Swag and Partners

Every season, our goal is to bring you new swag items and new partnerships. It’s a way to highlight more local businesses as well as keeping you coming back for more brewery run fun!

In addition to the waist belts, buffs, and bottle openers, we will have brand new pint glasses, water bottles with the “I sweat IPA” logo and sunglasses.

We’re also excited to welcome Gypsy Crunch Granola! They are a great local company who will be at every event with samples to try and take home. Laughing Planet Cafe will also be present at most (if not all) of our summer runs with BOGO coupons and fresh pressed juices to try. Stay tuned as we finalize our summer ice cream partner(s)!
