We’re really excited to get the 2017 Oregon Brewery Running Series started! Our first run at Portland Brewing Co. was fantastic (even if the weather did not cooperate). On February 18, we will be running at Rogue Eastside Pub and Pilot Brewery at 928 SE 9th Ave in Portland. If you recognize this location, but under a different name, this used to be the Green Dragon. Rogue has owned this property since 2008, but only recently rebranded to be a Rogue property.
I had the chance to sit down and chat with Danny Connors, the head brewer at Rogue Eastside, to pick his brain a little about all things Rogue: from his start at the brewery, to pub change over, his favorite beers, how he experiments with unique ingredients at the pilot brewery, and a few reasons he likes Portland.

About Rogue Eastside Pub & Pilot Brewery
Rogue purchased the Green Dragon in 2008. They added a ton of beers (like, 40) but mostly kept it the same. Late last year, they decided it was time to convert to a full Rogue property. According to their website,
“As the neighborhood and the business have evolved over the last eight years, we decided the time was right to bring the full Rogue experience to the east side of Portland. We’re eager to share Rogue’s world-class products and unique stories with new friends. The pilot brew system will allow us to expand our collection of fresh, interesting beers.”
It looks quite different inside. They’ve removed the back bar, added better seating, and redecorated with lots of Rogue stuff. I like it!
According to Connors, they now offer 35 Rogue beers, ciders, and sodas. They have also kept the original 19 taps dedicated to independent breweries. It remains to honor the spirit of the Green Dragon. Connors continues to operate the pilot brewery, doing lots of experimentation with new beers, some in incredibly small batches.
They also have a new menu, featuring “Rogue Pub” fare, as well as some old favorites from the Green Dragon. They seem to have kept the best of both worlds!
